Ser Educacional Opens Faculdade Joaquim Nabuco in Jaboatão dos Guararapes

New unit is the Company’s second accreditation in Jaboatão in 2016 and will be located in the center of the city

Recife, October 11, 2016, Ser Educacional (BM&FBOVESPA SEER3, Bloomberg SEER3:BZ e Reuters SEER3.SA), one of the largest private education groups in Brazil and the leader in the Northeast and North regions, hereby announces that the Ministry of Education (MEC) has accredited the Company’s second unit in Jaboatão dos Guararapes, in the state of Pernambuco.

The accreditation will take place under the Faculdade Joaquim Nabuco brand and the unit’s catchment area will be the city center. Known locally as Jaboatão Velho (Old Jaboatão), the region is characterized by its high population density and household earnings levels that are in line with a more affordable average ticket.

According to Group Ser Educacional’s CEO Jânyo Diniz, "the Nabuco accreditation in Jaboatão dos Guararapes is important as it represents the last link in our chain of units throughout the entire Recife Metropolitan Region. It will be located in a region of the city which has recorded substantial economic growth over the last ten years, but without offering relevant new post-secondary education options for the local residents."

The new institution will begin operations with five course options: Business Administration and Accounting, leading to bachelor’s degrees, and Commercial Management, Logistics and Occupational Safety, two-year specialist courses (CST). leading to a Regular Under Graduation Diploma, with a total of 1,200 annual places.

The institution’s accreditation protocol was filed with e-MEC on June 5, 2013 and was approved by the Ministry’s National Education Council (CNE) on June 8, 2016. Accreditation Ordinance 1123 of October 10, 2016 was published by the MEC in the Diário Oficial da União on October 11, 2016.

Jaboatão dos Guararapes is part of the Metropolitan Region of Recife, is the second most populous city in Pernambuco, with around 690,000 inhabitants, and has the state’s third highest GDP. Recife’s Metropolitan Region as a whole has a population of around 3.9 million and the capital itself, a population of around 1.6 million. Jaboatão is located between Recife and Suape Port and possess an important industrial district and logistics center, including the international airport which serves the entire state, as well as the region’s most important highways.
