Ser Educacional Opens Maurício de Nassau Unit in Cabo de Santo Agostinho

New unit is located in the Suape region, which has the
second highest GDP in the state of Pernambuco

Recife, June 22, 2016 - Ser Educacional S.A. (BM&FBOVESPA SEER3, Bloomberg SEER3:BZ and Reuters SEER3.SA), one of the largest private education groups in Brazil and the leader in the Northeast and North of the country, hereby announces that the Ministry of Education (MEC) has authorized the operational start-up of Faculdade Maurício de Nassau, a Grupo Ser Educacional brand, in Cabo de Santo Agostinho, Pernambuco. The new institution will begin operations with courses in Business Administration, Accounting, Occupational Safety, Commercial Management and Logistics, totaling 1,200 places per year.

The accreditation request for the Cabo de Santo Agostinho institution was filed with the e-MEC on April 5, 2013 and approved by the National Education Council (CNE), on October 8, 2015. The Accreditation Order was published by the MEC in the Diário Oficial da União on June 22, 2016.

According to Jânyo Diniz, CEO of Ser Educacional, "this is an important strategic move, given that Cabo de Santo Agostinho is located in a region that has recorded high economic and population growth rates in recent years, without a proportional increase in the supply of post-secondary on-campus education in the same period. Our market studies have shown that the unit will benefit from high commuting traffic between the Suape region and the cities of Recife, Olinda and Jaboatão dos Guararapes, which, in addition to boosting potential demand, will facilitate the Maurício de Nassau brand‘s penetration due to its recognition in the Recife metropolitan region."

Located around 43 km south of Recife, Cabo de Santo Agostinho is in the Suape region, which also includes the municipality of Ipojuca. The region‘s population is estimated at around 285,000 and it has the second highest GDP in Pernambuco state. Its main economic activities are related to Suape Port, currently the largest port in Brazil‘s Northeast, as well as the petrochemical, logistics and tourism industries.
