MEC publishes ordinance accrediting Faculdade Maurício de Nassau units in Olinda and Jaboatão dos Guararapes - PE
New Units Reinforce Grupo Ser Educacionals Leadership Position in the On-Campus Post-Secondary Education Segment in the Recife Metropolitan Area
Recife, December 02, 2015 - Ser Educacional S.A. (BM&FBOVESPA SEER3, Bloomberg SEER3:BZ and Reuters SEER3.SA), one of Brazils largest private education groups and the leader in the Northeast and North regions, hereby informs the market that the Ministry of Education (MEC) accredited units of Faculdade Maurício de Nassau, one of the brands belonging to the Group, in the cities of Olinda and Jaboatão dos Guararapes, both of which located in the Recife metropolitan area, in Pernambuco state.
The units will begin operating in the first semester of 2016 offering a total of 2,400 places (1,200 in each unit). The places are distributed across the following five courses: Business Administration, Accounting, Occupational Safety, Commercial Management and Logistics.
Jânyo Diniz, CEO of Grupo Ser Educacional, said that "the new units will reinforce our leadership position in the Recife metropolitan area, given that they will allow us to explore demand in cities where the Maurício de Nassau brand is already widely present, since the activities developed in Recife, such as congresses, fairs, support for sports and leisure activities and social responsibility initiatives, as well as research by the Maurício de Nassau Institute, have a natural penetration in the entire region.
For the executive, with the new units, the brand will become convenient for students of these two cities. "With the opening of Nassau in Olinda and Jaboatão, students will now have access to the academic quality they need, in less time and with lower transportation costs, a factor that is increasingly important in Brazilian state capitals and metropolitan regions."
The Recife metropolitan area has a population of nearly 3.7 million, while the state capital has approximately 1.6 million inhabitants. Jaboatão dos Guararapes is the second most populous city in Pernambuco, with nearly 680,000 inhabitants, and the third highest GDP of the state. The city is located between Recife and the Suape Port, and has an important industrial district and logistics center, home to the international airport that serves the entire state and the regions most important highways.
The Company already has operations under the Joaquim Nabuco brand in Olinda, one of Brazils most important historical cities, with a population of nearly 400,000. The municipality was declared a historical and cultural heritage by UNESCO; its economy is based on commerce and tourism. This is an attractive region for the group due to its high population density and excellent awareness of the Companys brands.
