Ser Educacional Opens Faculdade Maurício de Nassau Campus in Feira de Santana
Recife, November 25, 2015 - Ser Educacional S.A. (BM&FBOVESPA SEER3, Bloomberg SEER3:BZ and Reuters SEER3.SA), one of Brazils largest private education groups and the leader in the Northeast and North regions in terms of profitability and cash generation, hereby announces that the Ministry of Education (MEC) published an ordinance in the Diário Oficial da União today accrediting the Faculdade Maurício de Nassau de Feira de Santana, in the state of Bahia.
The unit has five courses to begin operations in the first semester of 2016 in the Business Administration, Accounting, Logistics, Occupational Safety and Commercial Management areas, totaling 1,200 annual places.
Jânyo Diniz, CEO of Ser Educacional declared that "after Petrolina in Pernambuco state, this is the second unit to be accredited this year, both in the interior of Brazils Northeast region, underlining the consistency of our strategy of exploring cities that have experienced high growth in recent years, but which have substantially less post-secondary education places than their respective state capitals. We believe firmly in the potential of cities in the interior of the North and Northeast states and in the metropolitan regions of the state capitals where we already operate."
With a population of around 615,000, Feira de Santana is around 116 km from Salvador, the Bahia state capital. It is the states largest city apart from Salvador and has the largest metropolitan region in the Northeast outside the state capitals, with around 732,000 inhabitants. It also has the countrys second largest highway junction linking the Midwest and Southeast regions with the Northeast. According to the Brazilian Institute of Geography and Statistics (IBGE), in 2012 Feira de Santana had a GDP of R$8.3 billion, one of the largest city GDPs in the Northeast, mainly driven by commerce and a highly diversified industrial center.
